Noom Med

CareFirst BlueChoice (CareFirst) has expanded your weight management benefits to include Noom Med, a medically supervised weight loss program for members at higher risk of weight-related medical conditions. It provides customized treatment plans and ongoing clinical support and, when appropriate, prescription medications.

With Noom Med1, you can:

  • Connect with a clinician for an in-depth evaluation.
  • Receive a custom care plan targeting your specific needs.
  • Determine if you qualify for a weight management medication. If you do, your medication will be prescribed directly through the program.
  • Get ongoing support from a health coach and peer support groups to help you stay motivated.

Eligibility Requirements2,3

To be eligible for Noom Med, members must be 18 years and older and either:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher; or
  • Have a BMI of 27 or higher AND one or more comorbidities4

Please Note You cannot qualify for Noom Med if you:

  • Are under 18 or over 80 years old
  • Carry Medicaid as your primary or secondary insurance
  • Have an active eating disorder (e.g., binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa)
  • Are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planned pregnancy within the next 6 months
  • Have Type 1 diabetes or currently use insulin

If you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2 (MEN2), you are ineligible for GLP-1s. However, you may still qualify for an oral medication through Noom Med.

How do I enroll in Noom Med?

Log in to the Noom app and check Today’s Lessons for a message titled, “You may qualify for medication: Noom Med.” Click the message to complete an assessment. Based on your results, you may be enrolled in Noom Med or remain in your current Noom program.

New to Noom?

Log in to or register for CareFirst WellBeing. Go to Your Wellness Resources > Health & Fitness > Noom. If eligible, you’ll be guided through creating a Noom account and completing an assessment.

1 You already have access to Noom Weight and the Noom Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).

3 Members are ineligible for Noom Med while pregnant or breastfeeding. Members under 18 may continue to use their existing provider for weight management care.

4 Comorbidities include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis or other joint/muscle issues, liver disease, heart disease, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and low testosterone.

5 If you already have a Noom account outside of CareFirst, you can convert your personal account to a CareFirst-sponsored account by following the Noom registration/enrollment process through CareFirst WellBeingSM using the same email address as your personal Noom account. The registration will prompt additional screens asking if you want to transition your personal account to a CareFirst account. If you agree, your personal account will be converted.
