Premiums for plans on the DC Health Link, and all Exchanges, are based on the number and ages of each family member covered by the plan.
How to Calculate Your Monthly Premium
Step 1
Use these national (PDF) or regional (PDF) plan rate charts to estimate your monthly individual or family premium for the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield plans.
Step 2
Use the rows listed under “Age” and “Monthly Premium” to take note of the premium cost associated with each of the members you would like covered under your health plan.
- You
- Your spouse
- Your three oldest children under age 21 (if you have more than three children under age 21, they are all covered, but only the oldest three count toward your overall premium)
- All your children ages 21-25
Step 3
Add everyone’s premium costs together to calculate your family’s monthly premium (before any employer contribution).
Step 4
Estimate your final monthly contribution amount:
- Using the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Premium Contribution Calculator (select button below), calculate the most accurate estimate of your monthly contribution—using your contribution amount and the employer agency contributions data in the website.
Adhere to the steps listed on the Premium Contribution Calculator webpage, but use your total premium amount calculated in Step 3 to insert your monthly premium, select a plan year and then your appropriate coverage type. Then, click "Calculate."
