Sharing Your Health Information
Medicare Advantage rules make it easier for you and your providers to get the health information needed to support your care. CareFirst provides tools that can help you understand how your information may be shared and how you can make choices about your health.
- Patient Access API Member Education and Resources: You can use a third-party health app to view your personal health information in one place.
- Interoperability Revocation of Authorization Form: You can use this form to stop a third-party app from getting your personal health information.
- Payer to Payer Data Exchange: You or your personal representative can ask CareFirst to request your personal health information from another health plan or managed care organization (MCO). Use the Interoperability Payer-to-Payer Request Portal to give CareFirst permission to make this request.
- Provider Access API: Providers who treat you may be able to access your personal health information to help support your care. You are automatically included. If you do not want your information shared this way, you can opt out by submitting the Interoperability Opt-Out Form.
Each year, CareFirst shares prior authorization information from the previous calendar year, as required by federal rules.
