CareFirst United Way Campaign Tops Goal!
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and its associates contributed more than $590,000 to six United Way (UW) organizations in the region during the 1998 campaign. The amount easily surpassed the ambitious goals of the company set at the beginning of October 1998.
UW organizations that received the contributions serve Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
"Thanks to the generosity and community spirit of CareFirst associates, the company's corporate matching program and dozens of fundraising events at the various office sites, CareFirst was able to make a tremendous impact in the communities in which it operates," said Gregory A. Devou, executive vice president and chief marketing officer. One of this year's corporate campaign goals was to have the money pledged by CareFirst associates remain in their local communities. The corporate matching program also provided an incentive for associates to increase participation as well as the level of contributions.
"The United Way relies heavily on contributions from corporations like CareFirst to fund year-round programs and services provided by our agencies," said Michael Stephan, director, Major Corporations Division, United Way of the National Capital Area.
