1999 Broker Sales are a Great Success

Brokers in the National Capital Area and Maryland have sold a combined 15,500 small group contracts for January through May of 1999.

In the National Capital Area small group market place, Thomas Bedard from Benco is the Number One Producer followed by Neil Simon and Eileen Greilsamer. "The BlueCard PPO national network is a major selling point for the BluePreferred product," according to Thomas. Members have peace of mind in knowing they have access to any Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan-participating hospital or physician across the United States and abroad simply by showing their identification card. Thomas also added, "The extraordinary service provided by broker representative, Mark Khatib, makes selling CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) products incredibly easy compared to other carriers."

In Maryland, David Pace from WSMT is the Number One Producer for Preferred Health Network (PHN) contracts for February through May, followed by Richard Silberstein and Stephen Shaff. "The flexibility of the product combined with the strong provider network makes it easy to sell PHN," said David. "The executive staff, including Dennis Batey, M.D., president and CEO of PHN, is willing to work with brokers and listen to our concerns and suggestions. The relationship between the broker community and PHN has had a tremendous impact on sales."

At this rate the total broker new sales production is expected to increase by another 15,000 contracts for the small group market during the next seven months. CareFirst thanks the broker community for their outstanding efforts and looks forward to serving the brokers in the coming months.

The Broker Council Members met during the first quarter of 1999 and provided valuable input regarding pricing and other issues affecting the broker community. As a result, we will make some favorable changes that will be announced during the third quarter.

Thank you for making the first five months of 1999 a great success. Look for the top-producing brokers for the 51+ market in the next issue of Sales Source.
