835 Remittance Advice Transaction Enhancements for FEP Maryland Claims Completed
CareFirst recently completed an improvement to the 835 Remittance Advice Transaction for FEP Maryland based claims. Effective August 12, 2009, sort orders for adjusted claims will include the following changes:
- reversal of the original payment will appear first within the remittance
- corrected payment will appear second within the remittance
The X12 Implementation Guide includes specific requirements for situations when a claim is adjusted for an incorrect payment. The method to show the correction is to reverse the original payment and then resend the correct data.
What this means for providers:
- Improvements to the 835 Remittance Advice Transaction for FEP Maryland based claims are in compliance with the X12 Implementation Guide.
- Clients will be able to automatically post the 835 Remittance Transaction with less manual intervention.
Please Note: This change is specific to FEP Maryland based claims. All other claim systems already use this sort order.
