New State of Maryland Health Plan Options

May 29, 2009

Effective July 1, 2009, we will offer State employees three health plans options.

  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
  • Maryland Point of Service (MPOS)
  • Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) - New!

The Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) replaces the State's BlueChoice HMO plan as of July 1, 2009. This plan offers members the ability to seek in-network services from doctors, specialists, hospitals and urgent care facilities that participate in the PPO network. Please note: the EPO plan covers members for in-network services only.

Mental Health Services

Additionally, mental health services for EPO members will be administered through Magellan Health Services, while State PPO and MPOS members will continue to seek mental health services through APS Healthcare.

New Cards Issued

All members (PPO, MPOS and EPO) will be issued new identification cards and should expect their new cards by the end of June, 2009.
