Large Groups Begin Migrating to the NASCO Platform in January

January 5, 2009

As you may have heard, January 1, 2009 marks a significant step in our efforts to make it easier to do business with CareFirst. How? We will be migrating 34 large groups from our older legacy systems to the NASCO platform. During the next two years we will be moving all of our non-FEP business to one of two claims processing platforms: NASCO or FACETS. While the NASCO migration should have minimal impact to providers, we want to remind you of an important practice that should be apart of your normal routine.

Always remember - when you check in a CareFirst member, ask to look at their identification (ID) card and ensure that your information is current.  Since a patient may have changed products at renewal, or because they may have been migrated to another platform, their membership number may have changed. Therefore, just asking if they still have CareFirst insurance is not enough. If their information has changed and/or they have been migrated to another platform and you submit a claim to the old address using outdated information, it is very likely that the claim will be rejected. So, getting the information in advance can save time for you and your patients.
