Changes to CareFirst Direct

We are excited to announce updates to CareFirst Direct, our free, web-based tool that participating providers use to obtain real-time eligibility, benefits, claim status and authorization information for CareFirst members. Among the changes to CareFirst Direct are:

  • A new time-saving feature to view benefit details allows you to set up to four frequently used service types as your favorites for future use.
  • You have the ability to review a member’s coverage for all covered plans as well as inquire about the plan that is most appropriate.
  • The patient service date search has been expanded to 24 months of eligible coverage. Restrictions apply with regard to the time period that the search can be conducted.
  • The wait period to send an inquiry for pending out-of-area claims has decreased from 14 days to 7 days.
