Battery Recall: OneTouch UltraSmart Blood Glucose Meter

LifeScan has announced that due to a potential issue with leaking batteries, they are recalling certain lot numbers of OneTouch UltraSmart Blood Glucose Meters, which are specified below. If you do not currently have a OneTouch UltraSmart Blood Glucose Meter or a meter with serial numbers beginning with TC, TD, TF, or TG, this issue does not apply to you.

LifeScan will replace the two AAA batteries shipped with OneTouch UltraSmart glucose meters shipped in 2005 because they have a higher-than-normal chance for leakage. Batteries which leak within the meter’s battery compartment could cause residue and/or corrosion, which, in turn, can result in the battery wearing out sooner than normal. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been notified of this action.

Consumers who believe they have affected meters should contact LifeScan Customer Service at 1-866-621-4049. LifeScan will assess whether your entire meter needs replaced or if battery replacement alone will prevent potential issues.
