Testim Now Preferred Testosterone Gel on CareFirst Formulary
Effective immediately, the prescription drug Testim will be the preferred testosterone gel product on the CareFirst formulary (Tier 2). Members who receive a new prescription for a testosterone gel should have it written for Testim (1% testosterone in individual tubes), our Tier 2 product. Those who have a prescription filled for AndroGel (1% testosterone in individual sachets), our Tier 3 (non-preferred) product, as a new prescription will pay the ENTIRE COST OF THE PRESCRIPTION, not just the copay. Members who currently have a prescription for AndroGel are not required to change drugs. However, should you choose to change from AndroGel to Testim, you will save the difference between the Tier 2 and Tier 3 copays. Please note: You are not required to change medications; this letter is only notifying you of changes to our preferred drug list. If you wish to change to another medicine, please talk to your doctor. Only your doctor can decide which medicine is right for you.
