New Generics for Accupril, Duragesic, Sporanox
The following non-preferred (tier 3) drugs now have generic equivalents. The brand name drugs listed below remain at tier 3 and the new generic alternative will be available at tier 1. The member's copay will not increase, but a lower copay is now available if he or she chooses to take the generic alternative. The brand name drug is in bold:
- Accupril: For the treatment of high blood pressure. The generic equivalent is quinapril.
- Duragesic Patch: For the treatment of chronic pain that cannot be controlled by less potent pain relievers. The generic equivalent is fentanyl.
- Sporanox: For the treatment of fungal infections. The generic equivalent is itraconazole.
Note: Depending on the prescription benefit, some members who choose the non-preferred or Tier 3 drug over the generic equivalent will pay the copay or coinsurance amount, plus the difference in cost between that drug and its generic equivalent, up to the cost of the drug.
