Coordination of Benefits Member Telephone Survey

Members will begin to receive calls on December 15

Beginning December 15, 2009, CareFirst will be conducting a Coordination of Benefits (COB) survey. This survey is performed each year to verify that member records are updated correctly in our system so that claims are paid properly.

When contacted, members will be informed that CareFirst is calling to collect COB information that only will be used to update member records with their alternate insurance coverage (when applicable). This information is confidential and will not be shared with any third-party vendors. CareFirst will be contacting approximately 40,000 members from December 15, 2009 through January 15, 2010.

During the telephone survey members will be asked questions such as:

  • Do you have other health insurance coverage?
  • Which family members have this alternate coverage?
  • What company provides the other coverage?
  • What is your member ID information for the alternate coverage?

Members who receive a voice mail message about the survey and wish to respond to the message may reference the correct phone number and priority service code information from the phone message.
