Choosing a Plan
Coverage Advisor: Coverage Advisor can help you make an informed decision about your health plan options. Just answer a few questions about your health care needs - and Coverage Advisor will estimate your annual health care costs. Then, enter information about the health plans you are considering. You'll receive estimates of your annual out-of-pocket expenses for each of the plans you selected.
Individual Express: Are you self-employed? Do you work for an employer who doesn't provide health insurance? Or are you retired and need affordable coverage? Individual Express can help you find the right insurance plan for you and your entire family.
Selecting a Provider
Find A Doctor: Whether you're looking for a physician close to where you work or a specialist or hospital near where you live, you're sure to find the right provider to meet your specific needs. Find a Doctor is updated every week, so you are assured of always having the most up-to-date information available.
Hospital Comparison Tool: When planning for surgery or some other procedure, finding the best place to receive care is important. Members can access the tool by logging into My Account. It provides a side-by-side comparison of the hospitals in your area, based on the number of procedures completed, the rate of complications, the average length of stay and more. Planning Your Costs
Treatment Cost Estimator: Members of selected plans (including some CDH plans and the Federal BlueChoice HMO plan) have access to medical cost information for 22 major practice categories including maternity, infections, and heart conditions. The Treatment Cost Estimator provides an estimated cost for treating the condition - from diagnosis until the treatment ends. It also provides the average number of days spent treating the condition. Access is available through My Account.
Drug Pricing Tool: Members with most prescription drug plans can access our drug pricing tool through My Account. Just type in the name of the drug, your prescribed dosage, select a pharmacy near you and in seconds, you'll find out how much you will pay -- If you have not reached your deductible, your cost will be the CareFirst discounted drug cost. If you are in a managed care plan or have already met your deductible, you will receive your copay amount.
Managing Your Plan
My Account: CareFirst's secure site for members where you'll learn how much you've paid towards your annual deductible or which claims have been paid, as well as information on eligibility, claims status, your deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximums. You can even change your PCP or order a new ID card online.
Pay My Bill: If you purchase your insurance directly from CareFirst rather than participating in an employer's group coverage, you can pay your monthly premium online. All you need is a copy of your bill and a Visa or MasterCard. Payments will be processed within 3 business days.
Maintaining Your Health
My Care First: Would you like to learn how to better handle stress? Or learn more about your child's asthma? At My Care First, our health and wellness website, you can evaluate your health, set exercise goals, browse through our nutrition and recipe libraries or read the latest health news online.
Health Risk Assessments: You may have two options for health risk assessments:
- My Care First: All members have access to a variety of online quizzes and tools to assess your risk for illness and identify steps you can take to reduce your risk. To use the Health Risk Assessment, you'll create a private user name and password. All of the information you enter will be kept confidential.
- MyHealthProfile: Your employer may offer a detailed health risk assessment as part of your benefits package. Information will be available in your open enrollment materials or from your employer. The online health risk assessment provides a personalized health report that alerts you to possible health risks and offers recommendations on how to stay healthy.
Options: Save up to 50% on fitness club memberships, weight loss programs, hearing care services and laser vision correction, as well as alternative therapies such as acupuncture, nutrition counseling, massage therapy or yoga.
