CareFirst Names Margolis Senior Vice President

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield has named Steven J. Margolis to the position of Senior Vice President, Small and Mid-Size Group Administrative Service Unit (ASU). Small and Mid-Size Group ASU serves more than 1 million of CareFirst's 3.3 million members.

Margolis Senior Vice PresidentOWINGS MILLS, MD (February 9, 2009) – CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has selected Steven J. Margolis to fill the role of Senior Vice President for its Small and Mid-Size Group Administrative Services Unit (ASU). The Small and Mid-Size Group ASU serves a key market segment for the not-for-profit insurer, accounting for more than 1 million of CareFirst’s 3.3 million members.

Small Group products are designed for organizations providing  benefits for two to 50 employees. Mid-Size Groups provide coverage for 51 to 199 employees. Small and Mid-Size Group policies are primarily sold through an extensive network of independent brokers. 

"Steven joins a talented and experienced group of ASU leadership at CareFirst," said Chet Burrell, CareFirst President and CEO.  "He will play an important role in continuing CareFirst's commitment to award-winning service and our success in growing membership in a rapidly changing industry and uncertain economy."

Margolis holds a Master's in Business Administration from Yale University and a Bachelor's from Clark University, in Massachsetts. Margolis has 16 years of experience in health care business administration. Prior to joining CareFirst, Margolis held leadership positions with Healthways and UnitedHealthcare.
