BALTIMORE, MD (Aug 18, 2008) - Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) today announced the expansion of its Surgical Technology Program. Funded in-part by a $49,375 grant from CareFirst, expansion of the Surgical Tech program will increase student enrollment and lead to a much needed increase in area operating room technicians. Baltimore City Councilwoman Rochelle “Rikki” Spector, District 5, CareFirst of Maryland Board member Barbara Blount Armstrong, and other city, CareFirst and BCCC leadership were on hand for the event.
“CareFirst’s partnership with Baltimore City Community College is designed to increase the number of surgical technologists serving the Baltimore Metropolitan area,” said Maria Harris Tildon, Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Community Relations for CareFirst. “After graduating, many of BCCC’s students will go on to work in hospitals across the state, where there's a continued demand for surgical technology professionals.”
BCCC offers both a Surgical Technologist Associate’s of Applied Science degree and a professional certificate recognized by the Association of Surgical Technologists, at the college’s Liberty Campus, 2901 Liberty Heights Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21215. The two-year, 70-credit program prepares students for employment in the operating room. Anyone interested in the program is encouraged to call 410-462-7722
