CareFirst Names Alok Gupta CIO |
| CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield has selected Alok Gupta, Ph.D., to fill the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Gupta will oversee the direction and delivery of all information technology systems in support of CareFirst's operations.

OWINGS MILLS, MD (July 21, 2008) – CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has selected Alok Gupta, Ph.D., to fill the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Gupta will oversee the direction and delivery of all information technology systems in support of CareFirst’s operations. He joins CareFirst from Siemens Healthcare where he was Vice President and Global Head for Computer-aided Diagnosis & Knowledge Solutions Business.

Alok’s deep experience in health care technology and innovation with a global leader in the industry will prove invaluable as CareFirst upgrades its information technology capabilities.”
In his 11 years at Siemens, Gupta served various positions, including leading in-house development of core technologies in support of Siemens’ image processing, data mining and computer-assisted design systems.
As CareFirst’s Chief Information Officer, Gupta will report directly to Burrell.
Gupta holds Master’s and doctoral degrees in Computer and Information Science from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Masters of Business Administration from the University’s Wharton School of Business.
