| CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Challenges Employers to Participate in National Walk @ Lunch Day
|
Walk With Us!
Resources for Employers:
OWINGS MILLS, MD (April 8, 2008) - CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) today issued a challenge to employers in Maryland, Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia to encourage their employees to take part in the 2008 National Walk @ Lunch Day, Wednesday, April 30, to promote workplace wellness. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says that just 30 minutes of moderate activity five days per week can significantly lower the risks of catastrophic diseases, such as heart attack, stroke and Type 2 diabetes.
"National Walk @ Lunch Day provides employers and managers the opportunity to educate and promote the benefits of leading healthy, active lifestyles," said Dr. Jon Shematek, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for CareFirst. "Employers that support workplace wellness see the results in their offices. Healthy employees miss less time from work, are more productive, and cost less for health care."
CareFirst associates will participate in the event on April 30, and the company has provided resources for employers to plan and execute successful Walk @ Lunch activities on its Web site, http://www.carefirst.com/employers/html/NationalWalkAtLunchDayHome.html. Employers can find helpful planning tips, employee communications templates, media support, as well as marketing and graphics tools.
In its 71st year of service, CareFirst, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is a not-for-profit health care company which, through its affiliates and subsidiaries, offers a comprehensive portfolio of health insurance products and administrative services to 3.2 million individuals and groups in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
