David D. Wolf
David D. Wolf was named Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in November 2006 and continues in his capacity as Executive Vice President, Medical Systems and Corporate Development. Wolf joined the company in 1991, when Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland (BCBSMD) purchased CareFirst Health Plan, then a Baltimore-based HMO.
Between 1995 and 1998, Wolf served as Chief Operating Officer of BCBSMD, where he directed overall operations of the company including Managed Care and Indemnity Operations, Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, Medical Affairs, and Physician Networks.
From 1994 – 1995, as Senior Vice President of Managed Care and Chief Financial Officer of BCBSMD, Wolf directed the managed care, health maintenance operations of the company which included CFS Health Group, Columbia Medical Plan and Delmarva Health Plan. He was responsible for the recruitment and maintenance of physician networks. As CFO, Wolf directed the financial operations of the company and assured the integrity of its external and internal financial reporting. He was also responsible for the actuarial and underwriting functions.
Prior to joining CareFirst Health Plan, in 1985 as its president, Wolf was the vice president of administration and executive director for Chesapeake Physicians (CPPA), an independent academic medical group practice of 140 physicians, and chief financial officer of CPPA’s professional liability insurance company.
Wolf is a member of the Board of Sponsors of Loyola College Sellinger School of Business and Management. Wolf is a graduate of Loyola College in Baltimore, where he earned his master’s degree in business administration, and is a Maryland certified public accountant.
Wolf, 56, is a resident of Baltimore City.
