Investments in technology and systems help speed reimbursements. Expanded on-line capabilities enable physicians and other medical professionals to verify coverage of their patients, review the status of claims, check drug formularies and examine CareFirst medical policies in real-time.

Much about the relationship between CareFirst and health care providers will remain unchanged. Our agreement with WellPoint specifically preserves Blues headquarters in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and there will continue to be local regulatory oversight of CareFirst. CareFirst will become the new Southeastern regional headquarters for WellPoint.
