Change for the Better: For CareFirst
Overview Positioning for the Future What Does it Mean for Me?
For Our Health Care Partners For the Communities We Serve For CareFirst

By joining with WellPoint, CareFirst will be positioned to effectively serve the region for years to come. We will have the financial resources to invest in the technology upgrades, new products and new services that will allow us to compete with national insurers doing business throughout our service area. We will solidify our position as a significant regional employer and – through our union with WellPoint – become part of a national health care company and gain access to national physician networks that will make CareFirst more attractive to national employers with a presence in our service area. And, because WellPoint shares our same heritage and commitment to the trusted Blues brand, we will continue to meet the needs of our customers while enhancing our competitive position.

CareFirst is on the threshold of another major step in its evolution. Throughout 2002, CareFirst will work to convince regulators, legislators, our members and the communities we serve of the benefits this proposed transaction presents. The benefits of the pending conversion and merger with WellPoint present a clear win-win result for CareFirst and all who hold an interest in the company’s future: better service for our members, a more secure and stable market position for CareFirst and a $1.3 billion reserve to help address the unmet health care needs throughout the CareFirst service area.

Text Callout: CareFirst associates responded to more than 6.2 million customer phone inquiries in 2001 and handled more than 26.5 million claims.
